NSSF Bets Big on Infrastructure with Sh25bn Investment in Nairobi–Mau Summit Highway

 The National Social Security Fund (NSSF) is planning a strategic investment of up to Sh25 billion to acquire a 50% stake in a consortium led by the China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) for the construction of the Nairobi–Mau Summit highway. This move marks NSSF’s first significant venture into infrastructure development, signaling a notable shift in its investment strategy from traditional government bonds to high-return, long-term assets.

The ambitious Sh170 billion project involves the upgrading of the busy Nairobi–Nakuru–Mau Summit road into a modern dual carriageway. The investment structure is a public-private partnership (PPP), with NSSF and CRBC expected to recover their investment through toll charges levied on motorists using the highway. This innovative model not only ensures the road's completion without straining public finances but also allows investors to benefit from a steady income stream over time.

This project replaces a previous deal that was to be led by a French consortium but was cancelled. With the Chinese-led partnership now taking the lead, the highway development is back on track, promising to ease traffic congestion, reduce travel time, and enhance trade and logistics across Kenya’s most vital transport corridor.

For NSSF, this investment reflects a strategic pivot towards diversified portfolios aimed at boosting member returns. Traditionally invested heavily in government securities, the fund is now exploring infrastructure to secure better long-term gains for contributors. The move aligns with global pension fund trends, where institutions are increasingly looking at infrastructure as a stable and profitable asset class.

 Dancehall artist Flippa Moggela has claimed the number 1 spot on the iTunes Reggae Music Videos Chart with his latest release ‘Oh Please’. The video has surged ahead of industry heavyweights like Shenseea, Vybz Kartel and Bob Marley, marking a major milestone for Flippa as he continues his powerful return to the scene. Following the release at midnight on Friday, ‘Oh Please’ debuted at number 5 by midday. By Sunday afternoon, it skyrocketed to the top and stayed there well into Tuesday.

Directed by JJ of Star Imag3 Films in Philadelphia, the official music video for ‘Oh Please’ was made available on YouTube and iTunes at midnight on Friday, May 23. Amassing a whopping 94,000 views in a matter of hours on YouTube alone, these visuals showcase Flippa’s lavish lifestyle and depict himself as uncaring of what other people’s opinions of him are.

Born Andrew Davis and known globally as the Flossing King, Flippa expressed his anticipation and enthusiasm towards ‘Oh Please’, the release of the music video and being grateful for topping the charts. 

“I’m extremely proud of how the video turned out. I gave a young female director a chance and she delivered. It’s obvious the fans like the video as much as they’ve enjoyed the track itself for it to debut so high on the charts. Thank you for the support,” Flippa said.

The track itself is doing well and providing some much needed spotlight on Flippa Moggela. ‘Oh Please’, produced by TJ Records, has been receiving heavy rotations on radio stations across several states and the visuals are complementing it perfectly. Released on the Street Vybz Riddim, the video is already creating waves online and setting the tone for his upcoming appearances, including the highly anticipated Evolution event on June 29, 2025.
