Deciding to switch courses in college after already choosing one is no easy task. It often comes with mixed emotions — from anxiety and uncertainty to relief and renewed passion. Many students feel pressure to “stick it out,” but the truth is, changing your mind is okay. It’s a sign of growth, not failure.
When I first chose my course, it felt like the right fit — maybe because it was expected of me or sounded impressive. But as the semesters went by, I began to feel disconnected and unmotivated. My interest waned, and I found myself drawn to another field entirely. The decision to switch wasn’t instant. It took long nights of reflection, honest conversations with mentors and friends, and a deep look into what truly excited me.
The fear of starting over, delaying graduation, or disappointing others weighed heavily. But I had to remind myself: this is my journey. And if I'm going to invest time and money in an education, it should be in something I care about.
Once I made the switch, it felt like a breath of fresh air. I was more engaged in my studies, eager to learn, and finally felt aligned with my goals. The transition wasn’t without its challenges, but it was worth it.
To anyone considering a course change — trust your gut. It's never too late to pivot toward something that lights you up. Life isn’t a straight line, and sometimes the bravest thing you can do is choose the path that feels right, even if it means going back a few steps to move forward with purpose.
