The Ultimate Guide to a Fun Weekend Getaway with Your Peers

A weekend vacation with your peers is the perfect way to unwind, explore new places, and create unforgettable memories. However, to make the most of your trip, proper planning is essential. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you prepare for a smooth and enjoyable getaway.

1. Choose the Perfect Destination

Pick a location that suits everyone’s interests—whether it’s a beach retreat, a cabin in the mountains, or a lively city escape. Consider travel distance, budget, and available activities to ensure a great experience for all.

2. Set a Budget

Agree on a budget beforehand to avoid last-minute financial stress. Factor in accommodation, transportation, food, activities, and miscellaneous expenses. It’s a good idea to split costs equally or use budgeting apps to track shared expenses.

3. Book Accommodation in Advance

Whether you opt for a hotel, Airbnb, or a vacation rental, ensure the place can comfortably accommodate your group. Check for amenities like Wi-Fi, parking, and shared spaces where you can relax and bond.

4. Plan Activities but Stay Flexible

Create a rough itinerary with fun activities everyone will enjoy—hiking, sightseeing, beach outings, or nightlife. However, leave room for spontaneous adventures and relaxation.

5. Pack Smart

Make a checklist of essentials, including clothes suited for the destination, toiletries, chargers, and any special gear for planned activities. If you’re traveling by road, consider snacks, a playlist, and travel games to keep the journey fun.

6. Sort Out Transportation

Decide on the best mode of travel—carpooling, public transport, or renting a vehicle. If driving, ensure the car is in good condition, and assign a driver or rotate turns.

7. Capture the Moments

Bring a camera or use your phone to document your trip. Group photos and candid shots will make for great memories.

With proper planning, your weekend getaway with your peers will be stress-free and filled with fun. Pack your bags, hit the road, and enjoy every moment!

Also seeing how fashion can transform confidence, mood, and identity fascinates me

4.As an upcoming fashion designer in Kenya, I have faced several challenges, but each one has shaped my journey and strengthened my brand.

1. Building Brand Recognition in a Competitive Market

Haute couture is a niche in the market and establishing my name among established designers is a bit challenging.Nonetheless i believe that focusing on unique, high-quality craftsmanship, leveraging social media marketing, and participating in fashion showcases will help me gain visibility thus growing my brand.

2. Financial Constraints

Starting a small fashion shop requires capital for fabrics, equipment, and marketing. To manage this, I have started with custom orders and small production runs and gradually things will fall into place

3. Sourcing High-Quality Materials

Haute couture demands premium fabrics.I have built relationships with trusted suppliers and explored local sources to maintain quality without excessive costs

4. Building Client Trust & Loyalty

Convincing clients to invest in exclusive, handcrafted pieces sometimes becomes a challenge. I address this by offering exceptional customer service, personalized designs, and showcasing detailed craftsmanship through social media

Each of these challenges has been a learning opportunity, helping me refine my business strategy and vision.

5.Who or what influences your creativity and design process?

5.My creativity is deeply influenced by my teacher and mentor Mary Sasha who's the founder of Sasha Designs Closet and Shalen School of Fashion who has guided me in refining my vision and craftsmanship. Their insights have shaped the way I approach fashion as a whole. Beyond technical skills, she's taught me to push boundaries and infuse meaning into every piece I create.

Exploring different cultural aesthetics, new techniques, textiles, and handcrafting methods is also a constant source of inspiration for me

6.What are your aspirations for your brand, and where do you see yourself in the next five years?

6.In the next five years, I see my brand becoming a recognized name in fashion, known for its innovation, craftsmanship, and artistry. I aspire to open my own fashion house expand into international markets, and possibly showcase at major fashion shows.

I also plan to grow my brand by establishing a strong presence in both physical retail and online platforms.

7.What advice would you give to young designers looking to break into the Kenyan fashion industry?

7.As a young designer myself, I’d say the biggest advice is to stay true to your creative vision while remaining open to learning.  Lawn tennis is a globally popular sport, yet in Kenya, it still struggles to gain mainstream recognition compared to athletics, football, and rugby. With the right strategies, Kenya can elevate tennis to greater heights and nurture world-class players. Here are key ways to improve the sport:

1. Increase Accessibility and Infrastructure

  • More public tennis courts should be built across the country, especially in schools, community centers, and sports complexes.
  • Existing facilities need better maintenance and affordable access to encourage more participation.
  • Partnerships with sponsors can help fund infrastructure development.

2. Develop Grassroots Programs

  • Introducing junior tennis academies can help identify and nurture young talent.
  • Schools should incorporate tennis into their physical education programs.
  • Holding community tournaments can inspire young players and grow interest in the sport.

3. Enhance Coaching and Training

  • More certified tennis coaches are needed to train upcoming players professionally.
  • Coaching clinics and exchange programs with international trainers can improve the quality of training.
  • Young players should have access to modern training techniques and equipment.

4. Increase Sponsorship and Support

  • The private sector should invest in local tournaments, offering financial incentives to players.
  • Government and sports federations must allocate more funding to develop the sport.
  • Establishing tennis scholarships can help talented players train locally and abroad.

5. Promote Tennis Culture and Media Coverage

  • More media coverage and marketing can make tennis more visible and appealing.
  • Hosting international tournaments in Kenya can attract global attention and encourage local participation.
  • Former Kenyan tennis players should mentor and guide the next generation.

With proper investment and commitment, Kenya has the potential to produce top-tier tennis players and make a mark on the international stage
