MEET GLOW LORNA THE KENYAN FASHION & COMMERCIAL MODEL MAKING REAL MOVES IN THE FASHION INDUSTRY

Working with fashion stylists , photographers, designers and other creatives in the industry, Kenyan model Glow Lorna has etched a name and brand in the industry and we had the opportunity for a brief interview. Discover more insight into her world now;

1. Hey how would you like to introduce yourself?
1. My name is Glory Lorna Wangari Kihumba but most people call me Glow , I'm currently a student at Kenya Institute of Mass Communication (K.I.M.C) pursuing a Diploma in Broadcast Journalism, Aged21. I'm a  well-endowed Commercial, and fashion model ,who’s work all round with a variety , photographers and other modeling experts including fashion stylists and designers in creating a conducive environment for the growth of fashion and modeling at large
Away from the model, I’m a humbled gent, a lover of fashion and a humanitarian who’s been on the chase to make the world a better place through different activities including charity works, environmental conservation and gender equality campaigns. My joy is the capability to holding other people’s arms and guiding them to success, inspiring young models and encouraging them to being valuable than being successful for the betterment of the world.

2. When did you discover your passion for modeling?

2. Well , I discovered my passion for modeling when I was 18 after I participated in the Miss Mass competition.
I grew up always watching model shows like Americans top model and I knew when an opportunity arises later on in life I will go for it.

3. Who are some of the icons in fashion that you looked up to when you were younger?

3. Fashion icon has to be Rihanna!!She is just as much a sartorial risk taker as she is a musician. I love her style and I've always looked up to her .
4. How has your journey in modeling been so far?
4. Modeling journey has been great! Can't complain but of course it's also not a walk in the park especially in Kenya where modeling is not as marketable so up there are a few hiccups here and there
Also I'm not with runway it has not as easy because they have a height limit of around 5'8 and I'm 5'4 that's why I chose to major on commercial and fashion modeling .
On the other hand commercial modeling has enabled me network and meet with different people in this industry for example I got a chance to be in an advert with Betty Kyalo and Eric Omondi.
Ofcourse there are many auditions that you don't get call backs , some clients exploit models , others pay well.
Let's just say everything has a good and bad side.

5. Which photographers or designers & creatives have you worked with?

5. I have worked with a couple of photographers but my highlight Muma pix who is well known here.

6. Which brands do you aspire to work with in future?
6. I aspire to work with big fashion brands both locally and internationally.
Internationally- Versace, Dior, Fashion Nova, Nike, Pretty Little Thing among others.

7. The fashion and modeling sector has been largely affected by the global covid pandemic, what do you reckon should be done to fast track the recovery of the industry?
7. No doubt covid 19 has deeply affected the fashion and modeling industry negatively. There were many auditions before but nowadays the auditions have reduced due to covid 19 restrictions, making it harder for even fashion and modeling events happening.
To fast track the industry ,it is easier for people to now do their staff online. Audition online, or closed auditions with a few shortlisted people  and carry events online before things come back online. At least that will have the industry still running

8. What's your fashion statement?
8.FASHION FADES, BUT STYLE IS ETERNAL.
Too many people want to look like winners without having the guts to do what it takes to become one.
I’ll keep walking my talk since to me style is so intimate.

9. What are your other interests apart from modeling?

9.Im a make up artist and I love cooking and traveling

10. How can you be reached on social media?
10. Social media
