The Kenyan beauty, fashion and modeling industry is brimming with talent. Among the most outstanding Kenyan talent is Deryl Onjula A Kenyan Fashion model seeking to represent diversity and inclusivity while making a mark in the industry. We had the opportunity for a brief interview with her, check it out below;
1. How would you like to introduce or describe yourself?
My name is Deryl Onjula.
Currently a student from Kenyatta University,pursuing bachelor of degree in nursing and public health.
Am a mental health advocate .
I’m a passionate, driven, and creative individual who thrives in the world of fashion and self-expression. Modeling has allowed me to explore my confidence, connect with diverse people, and be a storyteller through visuals.
2. What inspired you to become a model?
I’ve always admired the power of fashion and how it tells stories and conveys emotions. Seeing how models bring designs to life inspired me to step into this world. It’s also a great platform for self-expression and creativity.
3. How long have you been modeling?
I’ve been modeling for one and a half years and every moment has been a learning experience. I’ve grown so much both professionally and personally during this time.
4. Who are some of the people that you look up to for inspiration in the modeling and fashion industry?
I look up to icons like Naomi Campbell and Gigi Hadid for their versatility and work ethic. I’m also inspired by creative designers like Virgil Abloh and how they push boundaries in fashion.
5. What do you aspire to achieve through modeling?
I aspire to represent diversity and inclusivity while making a mark in the industry. I’d also love to use my platform to inspire confidence in others and promote important causes like sustainable fashion.
6. Tell us about some of the events you have participated in.
I’ve been fortunate to walk in Mr and Mrs face of granduer ,Mr and Mrs Ku school of nursing ,Mr and Mrs status KU,Ms Teen Rongai ,Mr and Mrs Teen Face of gold Kenya,Mrs Teen Universe Kenya, and ]. Each event has been a unique opportunity to grow and collaborate with amazing creatives."
7. What challenges and opportunities have you encountered so far as a model?
Challenges include maintaining consistency, dealing with rejection, and corruption. But on the flip side, I’ve learnt how to deal with the hard times.
8. What's your advice to upcoming models?
My advice is to stay true to yourself and be persistent. Build a strong portfolio, network with the right people, and don’t be discouraged by setbacks. Most importantly, take care of your mental and physical health.
