From Academic To Fitness: “Balancing Campus Life And Weightlifting Goals”

For many students, the journey of balancing academics with extracurricular activities is a challenge but for one KCA University weightlifting enthusiast, Humphrey Omondi, it is a journey of discipline, growth and personal triumph. His passion for weightlifting began while he was still young, but he officially started lifting when the desire to build both physical strength and confidence led him to the gym at his first year on campus. What started as a simple curiosity has now evolved into a meaningful pursuit of pushing boundaries and setting personal records.

Following a structured bodybuilding program, he focuses on mastering the “big three” lifts: squats for leg workout, bench press for chest and deadlift for back muscles. Of these three, the bench press holds a special place in his heart, “There is something deeply satisfying about lifting a heavy weight to and from your chest, it makes me feel unstoppable,” he shared. Techniques and safety are paramount in his routine. By watching instructional videos, seeking advice from experienced lifters and recording their form, he ensures that every lift is executed with precision. This commitment to proper form has not only elevated his performance but also helped him reach significant milestone such as the unforgettable day he bench-pressed twice his own body weight, a feat that stands as a testament to his perseverance.

His pre-workout and post-workout are just as deliberate as his training. Before each session, he warms up with dynamic stretches and light cardio to prepare his body. Afterwards, he takes protein shake and thorough stretching which becomes essential components of his recovery. He also listens to his body, take rest days when needed and incorporate foam rolling and massages into his routine to get rid of injuries.

Being part of campus gym brothers has added support, as the gym members not only share their passion but also celebrate each other’s achievements, commenting on how far they see your progress. To anyone willing to stepping into the weightroom, my advice is simple; “start small and focus on learning proper form. Everyone starts somewhere and there is no shame in asking for help,” he shared. For this weightlifter, the journey is as much about self-improvement as it is about not only lifting heavier but also proper form. He emphasizes the importance of high-protein diet, quality sleep and above all hydration as knowing these habits are essential for achieving his goals.

Through weightlifting, he has discovered a passion that goes beyond just physical strength. It is a pursuit that has shaped his mental resilience, boosted his confidence and showed him the power of commitment. His story serves as a powerful reminder that with dedication and the right mindset, anyone can conquer their challenges both in the gym and in academics.

Slay the Runway: A Simple Catwalk Routine for Beginners

A simple catwalk routine is all about confidence, grace, and rhythm. Whether you're a beginner or just practicing for fun, an easy routine starts with mastering your posture. Stand tall, shoulders back, and keep your chin slightly up. Your walk should be smooth and natural—place one foot directly in front of the other, as if walking on an invisible straight line. Let your arms swing gently at your sides in a relaxed way.

Begin with a basic runway walk: take about six to eight steps forward, then stop and pose. Hold the pose for a few seconds to show off your outfit or confidence. Then, pivot smoothly using one foot to turn around, and walk back with the same steady pace. You can add variation by including a simple spin or changing your pose at the end.

The key is to keep your movements controlled and consistent. Practice in front of a mirror or record yourself to improve your technique. Choose music with a steady beat to help you maintain rhythm. With regular practice, this simple catwalk routine will help you build stage presence, boost your self-esteem, and get comfortable walking like a pro in no time!

From Acting to Directing – Ian Mwangi’s Creative Reign

What starts as a childhood hobby can sometimes shape your entire destiny, just ask Ian Mwangi. Long before he walked the halls of KCA university,Ian was already editing videos on his mother’s phone, unknowingly laying the foundation for a career in media. Today, he is not only a founder of Supremenous Production but has also worked with several Kenyan celebrities and even made an appearance on Neema, a local series airing on Citizen Tv.

“I’m always in competition with myself,”Ian says . A simple yet powerful mantra that reflects his drive.

At KCA, Ian specialized in videography, editing, motion graphics and graphic design. His time there sharpened his skills and fueled his dream of building something of his own. That dream turned into Supremenous Production which is a creative company which offers media services to clients and businesses.

The idea took shape while working for a friend who had started a media company at a young age and was doing great in that field. The experience paired with the hate of a 9-5 job made Ian realize he wanted freedom, creativity and control over his own projects. “I didn’t like the routine. I wanted to be my own boss,”he explains. Of course, starting a business wasn't easy. Financing was the first major challenge. He saved , got the licenses and build a client base . At first ,convincing clients to take a chance on a new business was tough but he stayed consistent. One of the Ian’s most unexpected opportunities came when he was on his way to pitch himself at Jiffy Pictures.

He met Brenda, an actor on Neema and connected with creatives Samiro and Shigwan Shiku offering to help them shoot their content and that’s when Brenda asked if he could act. On the spot, he was asked to perform a scene with no script just raw energy. “ It was crazy, having to a create a script and act infront of them,” Ian recalls. He didn’t get feedback for two weeks and assumed the chance had slipped away. But the callback came and with it ,a foot in the door. Since then,he has worked with names like Carlos the Experience,Vidola UG and others.

These experiences gave him firsthand look at highs and lows of the creative industry. Among his many projects, one stands out for him; a short film called Sssshhhh! Though the footage was lost and never posted, it was a pivotal moment for Ian. It was his first time creating a full short film solo, just him, a camera and his cousin.

He learned to make fake blood, experiment with special effects and push the limits of his creativity. As a class representative during his university days, Ian says his discipline and consistency helped him balance studies and client work. When challenges come, he reminds himself of the one thing: why he started. His advice for young creatives? “ If you have an idea, go for it. Don’t give up. If you do the it’ll never see the light. Focus on the journey not just the destination.”

Looking ahead, Ian hopes to grow Supremenous Production , produce more quality films and hit 100k subscribers on their channel.

His story is a reminder that with passion, patience and a little boldness , dreams can turn into careers and sometimes even into screen time.
