Hello, who are you and how would you like to introduce yourself?
Hello, I’m Lenora Norine a passionate makeup artist from Kenya, I'm dedicated to enhancing beauty and boosting confidence through my art.
What inspired you to become a makeup artist, and how did your journey into the beauty industry begin?
My inspiration to become a makeup artist stemmed from my love for art and self-expression. I began my journey while experimenting with makeup as a young teenager, and it quickly grew into a passion. I started by doing makeup for friends and family, and over time, I developed my skills further through practice,you tube tutorials, and formal training.
As a Kenyan makeup artist, how do you think the local beauty industry has evolved over the years?
I think the local beauty industry in Kenya has evolved over the years. There’s a growing appreciation for diverse beauty standards and an influx of international brands.Social media has also played a huge role in promoting local talent and allowing us to showcase our work on a global platform.
Do you have a particular style or signature look that you are known for, and how did you develop it?
My signature look incorporates natural, radiant skin with bold eye makeup. I developed this style by blending my artistic sensibilities with the preferences of my clients.I’ve learned to adapt my techniques to create looks that resonate with individual personalities while still retaining my unique touch.
Can you tell us about some of the challenges you've faced as a makeup artist, and how you've overcome them?
As a makeup artist, one of the biggest challenges I'm facing right now is building a client base in a competitive market, I'm still a small makeup artist so I intend to overcame this challenges by networking, collaborating with photographers and other artists, and leveraging social media to showcase my work.
What are some of your favorite products or brands to work with, and why?
There are several but Rihanna's Fenty Beauty stands out.
How do you stay updated with the latest makeup trends and techniques? Do you attend workshops or follow any global makeup artists?
I stay updated with the latest trends by attending workshops,following renowned global makeup artists on social media, and participating in online courses.
Could you share a memorable experience you've had while working with a client, whether it’s a celebrity or a bridal client?
One memorable experience was doing makeup for fashion models for this big annual fashion event. The excitement and energy were palpable, and seeing their confidence boost as I applied the final touches was incredibly rewarding. It reminded me of the impact my work can have on someone.
What advice would you give to aspiring makeup artists in Kenya who are looking to establish themselves in the industry?
To aspiring makeup artists in Kenya, my advice is to practice relentlessly and never stop learning. Keep on pushing yourself and finally you'll get where you want to be.
How do you balance creativity and client preferences, especially when a client requests something outside of your typical style?
Balancing creativity with client preferences is essential. I always start by listening to their vision and then suggest how we can enhance it while incorporating my style. It’s about collaboration; I want them to feel like their best selves while also showcasing my artistry.
What are your future goals for your career as a makeup artist, and how do you plan to leave a lasting impact on the beauty industry in Kenya?
Looking ahead, I aim to expand my brand, possibly launching my own line of products that cater to local need someday. I want to continue mentoring aspiring makeup artists and contribute to the growth of the beauty industry in Kenya, fostering a community that celebrates diversity and creativity.
