So I've finally watched all of the Freedom Street performances. This is my review...
1. The show was filled with a lot of excitement in anticipation of KARTEL'S return to the stage however there were so many others present that their performances took up a lot of time. I suspect this was deliberate.
2. The aesthetics of stage graphics was to me good although the lighting could have been less to make the LED screens clearer to the audience.
3. Spice was excellent and high calibre, Ishawna was below par too much pum pum lyrics it's boring now, Bounty Killa was amazing, Chronic Law was good but unprofessional and he is one of my faves but learn to separate personal from performance, Shatta Wale never bad but me no sure him did necessary - felt like a misfit, Shawn Storm try but need more rehearsal which is understandable, Popcaan was very good but need fi puddung badness and focus on his craft and stop walk wid sumuch smady, Likkle Vybz n Likkle Addi were jumping around so much they ran out of lyrics , Jahvinchi sell right offfff, SHEBA was a whole vibe and she really complimented Kartel, Nhance's appearance was a touching moment, Busta was AWESOME but a who da likkle man deh beside him favah umpa dumpah, Skeng tek too much molly and di wig did a confuse him say him can fly but in true Skeng form his performance was lit, Tommy Lee demons dem get exorsised so him neva sound as evil as he intended but still a high energy performance that wasn't bad - hit after hit, Skillibeng sell right awffff and never had to do too much, Savage n him kullukullu never hit like it could of if we were in a soca sesh, a me one think say Kartel figet Harry Toddler name?? Because di way him intro one of the original G was so weird... Anywho Toddler still got it, he's an OG. Lisa Hype was out of breath for her whole performance sounded cracky cracky jussa run up n dung soooh. Cyaan badda review di others who just tek up time. Anywhooo now for the big one...
4. VYBZ KARTEL DID VERY WELL FOR ENDURANCE. He was on stage for ages and considering he is an unwell man I was very impressed. He was very reliant on assists from either other performers or the audience to sing or dj lyrics. It's either he forgot them, was out of breath or his voice was straining as he really struggled sometimes bless him. He did his best to me but I think it's time to focus on bringing up other artists and promotion with some guest appearances. Stage performances are no longer for him while he is so unwell in my opinion. Now that we have seen what he can do the excitement is over and I doubt it he would pull such a huge crowd for him as headline act. Kartel is a man of many talents and diversified business interests that he can push to maximise profits but he is now the guru of Dancehall and the most powerful thing he can do is shape the future of the industry through growing new talent, writing lyrics and events planning.
All in all a FANTASTIC event which has gone down in history. Kartel we salute you
