Bake the Perfect French Croissant at Home

Few pastries are as iconic as the French croissant. With its golden, flaky layers and buttery aroma, this classic breakfast favorite is a true delight. Although making croissants requires patience, the results are well worth the effort for anyone who enjoys baking from scratch.

To prepare homemade croissants, you'll need 500g all-purpose flour, 10g instant yeast, 50g sugar, 10g salt, 300ml warm milk, 250g cold unsalted butter, and one beaten egg for the final glaze.

Begin by mixing the flour, yeast, sugar, salt, and warm milk into a soft dough. Knead until smooth, then let it rest for about an hour until doubled in size. Roll the dough into a rectangle and place the cold butter in the center. Fold the dough over the butter and roll it out carefully. Repeat the folding and rolling process three times, chilling the dough between each fold to create the signature flaky layers.

Once the dough is ready, roll it into a large rectangle and cut it into long triangles. Starting from the wide end, gently roll each triangle toward the pointed tip to form the classic crescent shape. Arrange the croissants on a baking tray, cover, and let them rise until puffy.

Brush each croissant with beaten egg and bake at 200°C (390°F) for 15–20 minutes, or until beautifully golden brown.

Serve warm with butter, jam, chocolate spread, or a cup of fresh coffee for an authentic French-inspired breakfast experience.
