Meet Ntinyari Mburukua: A Multifaceted Talent Redefining Kenyan Fashion and Film

 Meet Ntinyari, a nutritionist, model, actress, stylist and a devoted believer in Christ. Her journey into the dynamic worlds of fashion and acting has been nothing short of inspiring. From designing doll clothes as a child to walking major runways, gracing billboards, and starring in films, Ntinyari has turned her childhood dreams into reality. We had an opportunity for an interview and a glimpse into her pursuit of happiness and success, check it out below;

1-Hello! How would you like to introduce or rather describe yourself?

I'm Ntinyari, a nutritionist, model, actress, stylist and most importantly a mom and believer in Christ.

2-What inspired you to venture into the world of fashion modeling and acting?

It's  one of those things you just naturally navigate towards since childhood.. it just calls you. I'm one of those kids that used to design their own doll clothes and lead mock runways in schools. I've tried corporate but it felt very stifling so I quit πŸ˜‚ with zero certainty of what next. Yup, I'm one of those.

3-Can you share a bit about your journey so far? What have been the highlights or milestones in your career?

I may sound puffed up but I feel my best is yet to come, I'm grateful to God for allowing me to walk major runways in the country, be the face on several billboards, TVCs and films in Kenya and beyond but this is only the beginning. God speed.

4-How do you balance the demands of being both a fashion model and an actress?

To be honest I'm still learning. Sometimes I find myself in a demanding project so I end up doing just about nothing on the other side.  However, I'm getting to a point where I'm learning to say no to draining projects (never bite more than you can chew) and prioritizing rest, fitness, family and God time.

Also I keep a checklist of sorts with all the projects I wanna do and the timeliness for each, keeps me accountable.

5-What role does Kenyan culture play in your work, both in modeling and acting?

Maaahn. I love culture. My favorite projects are the ones shot in remote places with tribal concepts and an infusion of nature. Culture really brings out creativity and authenticity.  We need to boldy incorporate our culture into the arts. You'll be surprised how well the world takes it.Kenya to the world.

6-What challenges have you faced in the Kenyan fashion and entertainment industry, and how have you overcome them?

Wow. I could write a book on that πŸ“. From inadequate legislation, discrimination based on physical attributes, sexual predators, poor pay, impunity and opressive mentalities, I could go on forever.  One thing about me, I'll pray about it, I'll voice it and I'll stand up for myself even if it costs me a contract or two. Which it has several times πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ In the end I'd rather not work that be part of a job that does not align with my values.

7-Who are your biggest influences or role models, locally and internationally, in both fashion and acting?

In film ; Jim Caviezel, Viola Davis, Letitia Wright, Chadwick Boseman, Jackie Chan, RegΓ© Jean Page πŸ₯° Lupita Nyong'o, Mumbi Maina, Edi Gathegi

In modeling ; Waris Dirie, Alek Wek, Iman, Winnie Harlow, Naomi Campbell, Adut Akech.

8-What projects are you currently working on or excited about, and what can your fans expect next?

Wow. There's an upcoming modeling project with a certain international brand that I just can't wait to shoot, super excited. Same for film. Okay, there's NDAs and all but watch out for it on my Insta. And I'm definitely diving back into content creating now that my schedule has freed up.

9-How do you use your platform to empower or inspire others, especially young women aspiring to join the industry?

I'm a book ready to be read, there's always someone that wants to know about castings, agencies, auditions, dressing etiquette, monologues etc and I think I can bodly say I never hold back, I'll share the information. You don't always have to use a formal route to help people,  just be kind enough to share what you can in whatever space the opportunity arises.

10-What advice would you give to anyone looking to succeed in modeling and acting in Kenya?

Get started, don't procrastinate, you could be 10 years or 100 and still break even. Do your industry research,  find your niche, show up and start building your portfolio one job at a time. Social media has made it so much easier , that's a starting point, use it to your advantage.

11-Finally, how do you stay grounded and motivated in an industry that can often be demanding and competitive?

Ni God manze. I could quote plenty of things that have helped but in the end it's God's favor. Someone will say, naah, it's your physique, resilience, hardwork etc... but who gives all of that?? It all boils down to God. Life is much easier when you learn to trust the giver of life.
